Key takeaways

  • Daily affirmations on your Lock Screen: Anicca (our app) — a new affirmation on your Lock Screen every day, swipeable cards, favourites and widgets; free to start, with Annual Premium at $59.99 a year.
  • Best free, ad-free affirmation app: I am + — custom affirmations, AI affirmations and practice sessions with music and voices are free; $4/yr unlocks more AI topics, voices and your own music.
  • Biggest affirmation library: I am — 4.8★ from over 1.2 million ratings and many categories; the free version shows a lot of ads, Premium costs $60/yr.
  • Affirmations with a vision board: Vision Board ++ — turns your board and affirmations into a slideshow with music and spoken affirmations, plus a gratitude journal; 4.9★, $19/yr.
  • Affirmations in your own voice: Mantra — record your affirmations and practice them in guided sessions, about $30/yr.
  • Affirmations with a gratitude journal: Gratitude — journaling first, with affirmations and a vision board section, about $30/yr.

Pick one app and open it every day: a few minutes of daily practice does more than the biggest library you never use.

Affirmation apps put short, positive statements in front of you every day: as reminders, widgets, read-aloud sessions or recordings in your own voice. We opened and read each reviewed app's US App Store listing on 5 November 2026: we read what each listing says about its affirmations, sessions, reminders and widgets, and checked what the free plan really includes and what Premium charges. We make Anicca, so it is scored with the same rubric as every other app.

Prices, ratings and platforms come from each app's US App Store listing, checked on 5 November 2026. Where a ratings count below is a sum across all 175 App Store storefronts, it is the count published by The Vision Board App in October 2026 and is marked as such; the US counts we read ourselves are given in the methodology. Prices change — check the store before you subscribe.

What to look for in an affirmation app

Six checks separate an app you keep using from one you forget after a week:

  • Free plan and ads. Can you write and practise your own affirmations for free, without ads?
  • Your own words. Can you add your own affirmations and sort them into collections?
  • Audio. Are there sessions with voices and music, or can you record your own voice?
  • Daily reminders. Do reminders and home-screen or lock-screen widgets keep an affirmation in view?
  • AI affirmations. Can the app write affirmations for your own situation?
  • Focus. Do you want affirmations only, or a journal or vision board next to them?

Anicca puts a new affirmation on your Lock Screen every day. Pick your focus for self-love and confidence, and read the day's affirmations as swipeable cards at your own pace. Save the words you want to revisit in your favourites, copy a quote, or share a card as an image with someone who could use it.

Type any wish, such as "I want to feel more confident", and I am + writes a set of personal affirmations with AI — the listing promises 40 powerful affirmations for any topic, created free with one click. Add your own, sort them into collections and get reminders through the day. All of that is free and ad-free.

Sessions turn your list into a short daily practice: the app reads your affirmations aloud in one of several voices over calm music. Home-screen and lock-screen widgets keep a line in view, and streaks show how often you practised. For $4 a year you get more AI topics, more voices and your own music.

✅ yes · 🟡 limited or paid only · ❌ not in the App Store listing and not found in our check. Checked in the apps' US App Store listings, November 2026; the seven competitor rows were cross-checked against The Vision Board App's October 2026 hands-on feature table, and no cell contradicted the listing we read. Anicca's row comes from its own listing, read on 5 November 2026: the listing states swipeable cards, favourites, copying and image sharing, 8 themes, notifications and widgets, and does not state custom-written affirmations, AI affirmations, own-voice recording, audio sessions, a journal or a vision board.

How we choose the best affirmation apps

We compared 8 iOS affirmation apps on the same criteria: price and ads, ease of use, the affirmation library, your own and AI affirmations, sessions and audio, reminders and widgets, extras such as a journal or vision board, and platforms. Our reading of each app's US App Store listing (see the introduction) is complemented by the hands-on feature table published by The Vision Board App in October 2026 for the seven apps it tested.

Ratings-count methodology

Two kinds of ratings count appear in this article, and they are never mixed. Star ratings are the US App Store averages we read on 5 November 2026. For the seven competitor apps, the headline ratings count is the sum of App Store ratings across all 175 App Store storefronts published by The Vision Board App (pulled on 22 October 2026, using the same method for every app); the US-only count we read ourselves is shown next to it in each app section. I am + is the newest competitor here and rests on 101 ratings across all storefronts (27 in the US when we read it), so its average can still move. Anicca's counts are our own reads only: 1 rating in the US store (5.0★) and 48 ratings in the Japan store (4.5★), both read on 5 November 2026; we do not sum storefronts for Anicca.

Prices, trials and platforms

Prices are the in-app purchases listed on each app's US App Store page, read on 5 November 2026. Free-trial lengths are shown inside the apps, not on the store, so for the seven competitor apps they are the lengths published in The Vision Board App's October 2026 test and can change; Anicca's store page states no free trial, so none is claimed. An app counts as available on Android when we found its Google Play listing; the platform cells above follow The Vision Board App's October 2026 check, cross-read against each listing's device support.

Selection criteria

  • Price — free plan, ads, subscription or lifetime cost.
  • Usability — how quickly you can write and practise your first affirmation.
  • Creation — built-in library, your own affirmations, collections, AI affirmations.
  • Customization — backgrounds, fonts, colours, voices and music.
  • Practice — sessions, own-voice recording, reminders, widgets, streaks.
  • Extras — journal, vision board, Apple Watch.
  • Sync — iPad support and syncing between devices.
  • Ratings — App Store rating and all-storefront rating count (see above).

Disclosure

We make Anicca. To counter-balance that, every app is scored from the same public App Store data and against the same rubric. Where a competitor is the better fit for a specific need, we say so.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free affirmation app?

I am + is the best free affirmation app in this comparison: the free version has no ads and covers the basics, including your own affirmations, collections, reminders, widgets and AI affirmations, and you can practise them in sessions with voices and music. A $4-a-year plan adds more AI topics, more voices and your own music. Among the other apps, Self Love and Mantra have usable free versions limited to general topics, and I am is free with a lot of ads. We make Anicca, so every app is scored against the same public App Store data and the same criteria.

What is the best free affirmation app for iPad?

I am + runs natively on iPad and its free version is ad-free, so it is our pick for iPad as well. Seven of the eight apps in this review run on iPad; Vision Board ++ is the choice if you also want a vision board on the larger screen, and Gratitude if you prefer journaling. Anicca is iPhone only.

Which affirmation apps let you record your own voice?

Mantra, Vision Board ++ and Gratitude let you record affirmations in your own voice and play them back. I am + and I am read affirmations aloud with built-in voices instead, and Self Love has you say them out loud in Mirror Mode.

Which affirmation apps have home-screen widgets?

Six of the seven competitor apps have home-screen widgets: I am +, I am, Mantra, Self Love, Vision Board ++ and Motivation. I am + and Self Love also offer lock-screen widgets, and I am and Self Love have Apple Watch apps. Gratitude does not list a widget. Anicca, the eighth app here, also keeps an affirmation in view with home-screen and lock-screen widgets.

Do affirmation apps actually work?

Affirmations can help, but they are not magic. Studies on self-affirmation, where you reflect on values that matter to you, show lower stress and more openness to change (Cohen & Sherman, 2014) and activity in brain regions linked to self-related processing and reward (Cascio et al., 2016). Repeating overly positive statements can backfire for people with low self-esteem (Wood, Perunovic & Lee, 2009). Affirmations that are specific and believable, practised daily and tied to action work best, and an app helps mainly by keeping them in front of you.
